Marilyn Monroe was one of the all-time greatest iconic figures of beauty and femininity. The just-released anthology I Wanna Be Loved by You: Poems on Marilyn Monroe, edited by Susana H. Case and Margo Taft Stever, addresses questions about gender roles and their enactment, and the ways in which women attempt to negotiate the differences between their private and public personae.

Monroe was a harbinger of the second wave feminists and the #Me Too Movement in her refusal to stay silent about the abuse that she suffered. She was also a trailblazer for human rights battles to come, as exemplified by her efforts to help Ella Fitzgerald get a gig at the Mocambo.

Some of the contributors to the anthology— Matthew Hittinger, Heidi Seaborn, Dawad Philip, Carolyn Wright, Lyn Coffin, Leanne Grabel, Suzanne Cleary, Suzanne Sigafoos, and the co-editors, Margo Taft Stever and Susana H. Case—will read anthology poems and talk about the reasons why they chose to deal with writing about or referencing Marilyn Monroe. Visuals related to the poems will be provided.
