Join PSNH on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 for Midge Goldberg: Steal This Poem!
Robert Frost said: “A poem is best read in the light of all the other poems ever written.” While we each write our own unique poems, sometimes poems are in a direct conversation with each other, or, less directly, form a “constellation.” We’ll look at one poem—one phrase, really—that has influenced others for 700 years and is still going strong. We’ll look at “conversations” between poems, sometimes intentional and sometimes by chance. Anytime you place two poems next to each other—in your manuscript, in an anthology—unexpected connections happen,
making a third thing that lives between, above. What’s the takeaway? Read, read, read…and steal this poem!

Bio: Midge Goldberg is the editor of the anthology Outer Space: 100 Poems, published by Cambridge University Press in December 2022. Her third collection of poetry, To Be Opened After My Death, was published by Kelsay Books in 2021. Her book Snowman’s Code received the Richard Wilbur Poetry Award as well as the 2016 NH Literary Awards Readers’ Choice in Poetry, and she received the 2016 Howard Nemerov Sonnet Award. She lives in New Hampshire with her family.
