Join us at NHAA  for the second installation of this cozy, creative series hosted by Jezmina Von Thiele. Featuring powerful readings by Sarah Deckro and Yasamin Safarzadeh, this night is all about connection, self-expression and inspiration.

Expect a blend of ekphrastic poetry, a generative open mic and interactive writing activities inspired by visual art. Bring your journal, sketchbook or whatever you like to write with and get ready to read, write and share in a supportive space. All are welcome.

Sarah Deckro is an artist and poet with a passion for nature, mythology and the imaginal realms. Her work has appeared in Lily Poetry Review, Fearsome Critters, the anthology Take a Stand: Art Against Hate, Rebel Hearts, and more. Sarah’s first poetry book, Baba Yaga, was released this summer by Lambhouse Books. Sarah lives and creates in Boston, MA.

Yasamin is a place-maker, program director, curator and advocate who enjoys deep immersion into the rich and vibrant sub cultures our heterogeneous landscape offers.

Poetry After Hours is a bi-monthly poetry reading occurring hosted by Jezmina Von Thiele, on a Thursday night toward the end of the month 6-8 pm, at the New Hampshire Arts Association in Portsmouth, NH. The event has two featured poets performing their work, and the reading is then followed an ekphrastic activity. The audience is invited to wander the gallery and for about 15 minutes free-write or sketch inspired my the artworks and/or performed poetry. Then we finish the night with an open mic. Participants are welcome to read a poem, whether it was composed during the activity, or beforehand.

Host Jezmina Von Thiele (they/she) is a tarot, palm, and tea leaf reader in their mixed Sinti-Romani family tradition. She is also a writer, poet, educator, cohost of Romanistan podcast, and coauthor of Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling. Their work has appeared in Prairie Schooner, The Kenyon Review, Narrative Magazine, and elsewhere.
