Tuesday, May 31, at 7:00 PM EST. Join Gail DiMaggio for an exploration of “Portrait Poems,” pieces focused on the vivid characterization of a particular individual. In some of the poems she has gathered for discussion, the poet brings us someone important to them, beloved, maybe, or at least admirable. Sometimes, we’re introduced to a darker personality, more criticized and resented. Gail hopes to discuss the ways a poet can manage—on the tiny, tiny stage of a poem—the novelist’s trick of bringing a character to life.
