Winter Light Poetry Reading
A reading by the Blackwater Poets will take place at Andover’s Community Hub, featuring poet Laurie Zimmerman, who will be joined by poets Susan Norris, Sarah Will, and (virtually) Ethney McMahon. This long-established Andover group will present an evening of contemporary lyric poetry, with poems influenced by the woodlands and lakes surrounding the Blackwater River and shadowed by Kearsarge, Ragged, and Tucker Mountains.
Bio: Laurie Zimmerman taught English at Proctor Academy before moving to Los Angeles in 2017. Now she’s back, living and writing from Tucker Mountain. Her first full-length poetry collection is Bright Exit (Quercus Review Press). Her work has been featured in many literary publications, including Poet Lore, Paterson Literary Review, Orion, Rattle, Image, Verse Daily, and on the Academy of American Poets website. She has received the Quercus Review Poetry Prize, the New Letters Award in Poetry, the River Styx International Poetry Contest prize, and five Pushcart nominations. Recently, Laurie joined the board of At Eagle Pond, Inc., whose mission is to preserve and establish the home of Jane Kenyon and Donald Hall as a Writers Center.
