Writing the Land is an ongoing project that pairs poets with land-trust protected lands.
We are interested in expanding and sustaining the community of creatives and environmentally-minded people. We are looking for poets especially in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine, and are expanding to southern parts of New England as land trusts in those areas enroll. We welcome all poets to take part, and are especially interested in lifting up under-represented and indigenous voices.
Publishing Information: We will publish an anthology of the collected poems (with Human Error Publishing, Greenfield, MA) with a chapter for each enrolled land trust at the end of 2021 and again in 2022, and we will publish your poems on our website in the meantime. We expect (but can’t guarantee) all poems will be included in the anthology up to 3 poems/land/poet. We have professional editors who will work with emerging poets if needed. Submission Timeline: We are accepting poets and land trusts on a rolling basis, matching poets with lands as they become available, so it’s important to note where you’d be willing to travel.
Poems for the 2022 edition are due July 1, 2022.
